SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR
 
 

Job Description
Responsible for developing treatment plans for inmates and provide individual and group counseling geared toward the clients specific goals and objectives.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in counseling and four years directly related experience, Associate of Arts degree and six years directly related experience required, or AA in chemical dependency. Current certified training in emergency first aid procedures required. Current certification as a substance abuse counselor in accordance with ARS Chapter 33, Article 8, Section 32-3321 required. Valid driver's license in the State of Arizona with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
Compensation $35,000 – 38,500/year

Location: Marana (Northwest Tucson), Arizona

About the Facility
The Marana Community Correctional Treatment Facility is a private prison run by Management Training Corporation.  The facility is contracted by the Arizona Department of Corrections and houses 500 male inmates in a minimum security setting.  MCCTF provides a treatment program for inmates with chemical and substance abuse problems. Treatment at Marana is based on a counseling model that emphasizes personal responsibility for behavioral choices and consequences. Inmates attend group therapy and private counseling. They are also active in Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Cocaine Anonymous. Program components include:  Adult Basic Education (ABE), Commercial Driver’s License, Computer Literacy, Employability and Work Maturity Skills, English as a Second Language (ESL), General Education Development (GED), Reasoning and Rehabilitation, Shaken Baby and Parent Skills (Dads 101), Substance Abuse Education and Counseling, Vocational Construction Modules, and Vocational Training.

The Addictions Treatment Counselor implements a wide range of alcohol and drug abuse programs, provides case management and counseling services to inmates/residents assigned to the therapeutic unit.

Qualifications: Must be a graduate from an accredited college or university with a degree in psychology, counseling, social work or a closely related field with one year experience in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs or other related experience in substance abuse counseling preferred. Qualifying experience may be substituted for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
